Rock N RollZ Nashville
My wife and I have both worked in the entertainment industry for over 20 years. When the pandemic hit, we both found ourselves unemployed, literally overnight. With no work and no possibility of any work on the horizon, we took our love of baking and sourdough and started a sourdough cinnamon roll bakery. We had never made cinnamon rolls before but we developed a recipe we thought was pretty amazing and started to sell them in our neighborhood. The first weekend we sold 63, the next weekend 83, the following weekend over 200 and we quickly realized we had something special! Our business grew leaps and bounds and within two months we found ourselves producing over 1,000 rolls a weekend. When we started the business, we wanted to bring awareness to the music industry as well as help to contribute financially to help others that were struggling. We came up with our slogan, “Buy a roll, Save a roadie” and we partnered with MusiCares which is an organization that provides assistance to musicians and touring personnel during a crisis. Because of the support of Nashville, we have been able to raise and donate over $33,000 to musicares! Our motto became ever more personal because as our business grew, we were able to employ over 13 other unemployed music industry personnel! We ended 2020 having sold over 31,000 cinnamon rolls which supported not only my wife and myself, but a lot of other folks in the community. I would say that Ball was essential, especially in the beginning of our business. Since our bakery uses sourdough exclusively, our starter is the heart of our business found it’s home was in a Ball jar! Also making some of our other jams and fillings by hand, they were all canned and stored in Ball jars. We feel very blessed to have found something that not only provided but gave purpose to us during this challenging year but also rallied the support of Nashville. From the Tornado, Pandemic and now the bombing, this city needs to have positive causes to rally behind and it has been the support of the local community that has allowed us to thrive.
